Making a Web PageI never knew it could be so complicated! Not only do you have to know what it is you want to say and do, you also have to know how to put it together, how to put in different type styles and pictures, how to get the "language" straight, and THEN you can try to get it into the Net! Whew! The first page took me almost a month to figure out, and then I didn't get it right. Well, a year later and the Net world changed dramatically, just when I thought I had it figured out. Fortunately, there are resources out there that can help enormously! Following are my favorite resources for help. I know, I know, every network has packages that will help you put together a little something. But it you really want to start cooking in style, and get a lot of stuff done quickly, you have to rely on outside sources -- meaning outside of just one server's packaged program, and a little expert advice never hurt! Bravenet has some of the neatest little things you can quickly and easily insert! Things like counters, chat rooms, guest books, and referral systems. It's free and they walk you through everything in language even I can understand! PlugIn Com Headquarters is a site for the more adventurous web site builder. You can get plug ins for all kinds of bells & whistles on your site. Requires some technical know-how, but boy, you sure can get some fancy, slow loading stuff here! CNET Web Building also has lots of information and advice. I got confused with all the info they had. I didn't know what I wanted to do first. A few things I was able to actually use. Most was beyond my ability, but it sure sounds good! Having access to real live, breathing/walking/talking Expert advice is also wonderful! Gray at www.grayworld.com has been a life saver for me. He offers help in everything from simple advice for a personal web site to handling enormous commercial sites that require innovative design, technical lay-outs, and specialized programming. For advice to little folks like me, prices are more than affordable! (Believe me, I really needed the help and my shoe-string budget is frayed!) Commercial accounts are reasonable and highly competitive (I checked out what it would cost for help if I went big time commercial -- whew!). Tell him I sent ya (and maybe MY next "emergency" will be free :-). |
